How Guna Milan works
Enter the date, time and place of birth for both partners. Astronath calculates each person's Moon sign and nakshatra, then scores the eight Ashta Koota factors. The maximum is 36 points.
| Koota | Points | What it compares |
|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | Spiritual temperament and outlook |
| Vashya | 2 | Mutual attraction and influence |
| Tara | 3 | Birth-star compatibility and well-being |
| Yoni | 4 | Physical and intimate compatibility |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | Mental compatibility (friendship of Moon-sign lords) |
| Gana | 6 | Temperament: Deva, Manushya or Rakshasa |
| Bhakoot | 7 | Relative Moon signs: family welfare and prosperity |
| Nadi | 8 | Health and progeny |
Doshas checked alongside the score
Classical texts describe exceptions (parihara) that cancel many of these doshas, so an experienced astrologer reads them in context.
- Nadi Dosha: both partners share the same nadi (Aadi, Madhya or Antya), which scores 0 of 8. It is traditionally linked with health and progeny.
- Bhakoot Dosha: certain Moon-sign combinations (for example 6–8 or 2–12 from each other) score 0 of 7.
- Mangal Dosha: Mars in specific houses. Traditionally it is considered balanced when both partners are Manglik.
